Always precocious as a shy child, Sandra wrote her first full-length play, a sci-fi Western, as a child of 10; at 14, she recognized her calling: combining passion for storytelling with being a champion for causes, and at 16 she moved on her own to New York City, where she became the youngest member of the renowned Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute as well as Actor’s Studio.
As a respected actress, Sandra has appeared in memorable roles in Delovely, Captain’s Courageous, Life As A House, The Wolf of Wall Street, Réalité and other films. Filling out her acting résumé are the award-winning multi-season role as “Phyllis” on the longest running daytime show, The Young & The Restless, the riveting Hitchockian series Scene Of The Crime, and many other popular shows and made for TV movies including NCIS, Star Trek, Taking The Falls and ER just to name a few.
Ms Nelson’s writing and directing projects have been produced as short indie films as well as a television pilot – they combine her seasoned approach to story with topics of social importance.
Sandra stands out among the film, TV and theater professionals of her generation for her “Renaissance woman” aspects. Having grown up in in a multicultural and multiracial home in the Southwest, she is fluent in French and Spanish. Supplementing her dual citizenships with “landed immigrant” status, she’s lived and worked in a variety of countries as well as the US, including Canada, France, the UK and Mexico. Her home is Los Angeles where her varied deep interests (such as the healing arts) are an extension of her long commitment to advocating for others—and always taking in the stories that her combined vocations bring her way.
